THIS IS THE FINISHED GAZEBO as it looked on Thursday. Even though it rained all day on Wednesday, the only water visible was that which came in from the winds. According to Beautification commission member Jackie Hameister: ''This will make a great improvement to the downtown area of Beecher.'' Residents are invited to come down and see this improvement. The area around the gazebo will be taken care of as soon as the ground dries out. Photo by Terry Gatlin.

New Gazebo at Depot Park

A new gazebo has been erected at Depot Park. The latest addition to the downtown area comes through the efforts of the Beautification Commission.

For the past five years, through on-going projects, the commission has saved the profits generated from its annual 'House Walks' for the purchase and construction of the gazebo. In addition, contributions from businesses at the 'Party at the Pointe' have added to the commission's funds for the gazebo.

The commission contracted with Amish Country Gazebos, of Manheim, Pennsylvania, to put up the gazebo. On Monday, May 11, four men brought the gazebo the Beecher, and began construction on Tuesday, May 12. They were finished in one day. As a result of their workmanship, Beecher now has another gazebo on Reed Street.

According to commission member Jackie Hameister: ''This is a beautiful addition to the downtown area.'' There was no money from the village for this project.

Earlier in the week, a concrete pad 20 feet in circumference was laid by Carta Concrete of Steger.

According the Jackie, ''This is a maintenance-free gazebo.''

The commission hopes that the new gazebo will be used for weddings, concerts, family reunions, gatherings, prom, graduation and wedding photos and music performances. ''It is a place for everyone to enjoy,'' said Jackie.

With two gazebos on Reed Street, the other one in the Beecher Womens Park, there will be a choice of places to enjoy a special opportunity or event.

The Beautification Commission thanks all who have contributed, through the house walks and the other events sponsored by the commission over the years, to the completion of this project.

Commission Member Julie Riechers said: ''This is a wonderful project and a great tribute to Beecher.''

This is not the end of the efforts of the commission to beautify Beecher. There will be hanging baskets along Penfield Street and Route 1; there will be flowers around town in various tubs and pots on the bridges of Penfield and Miller Streets; and there will be a special American flag of flowers in front of the Community Hall on Penfield.

Residents from other villages and towns come to Beecher just to see the floral displays generated by the commission members.

Jackie commended all the commission members for their hard work to make this project possible. Commission members continue to make Beecher a showcase of beauty for the residents.

Beautification Commission members are: Paul Lohmann (village representative), President Harold Lattz, Vice-President Julie Riechers, Secretary Jackie Hameister, Treasurer Barb McWhorter, Sandy Lohmann, Steve Weishaar, Julie Cleary, Jean Smith and Debbie Reising. These are volunteers and are always looking for others to help them.
