Mayor Einhorn meets with Governor Quinn and others Share
At the November 9 Crete Village board meeting, Mayor Michael Einhorn reported on a recent meeting he had participated in. It was a breakfast meeting with Governor Quinn on November 3, during which he brought Quinn up to speed on the proposed Illiana Expressway. The meeting was called by Representative Anthony DeLuca and also was attended by Bloom Township Democratic Committeeman Terry Matthews. Quinn offered his support for the new planned expressway that would connect Interstate 57 with Interstate 65, by passing through Crete. They also discussed the Metra Southeast Service Line, which would be a commuter rail line from Chicago to Balmoral Park, with a stop in Crete. Einhorn also has met with Metra staff and its consultant on the planning of a new railyard at the end of the Southeast Service Line. Einhorn also will be meeting with the Crete Township Assessor on the evaluation process and Tax Increment Financing issues. Fire Chief Lyle Bachert reported that 20 first responders received the H1N1 flu shots in University Park.

Superintendent of Public Works Phil Hameister reported that leaf collection is up to 425 cubic yards a day with the village's two collection machines. Hameister thanked the board for its support over the past 10 years for his flood prevention recommendations. With all the recent rains, the improvements are clearly noted. Finishing work is going on at the new water tower and public works will start filling it next week. The board commended Building Inspector Mike Smith for all his hard work and insights on the new tower. Village Administrator Tom Durkin reported that Universal Steel will be breaking ground in the spring on its new facility. Durkin has been meeting with annexation candidates and the meetings are going very well. Final plans have been submitted to IDOT on the Independence and Exchange stoplight. Durkin has started preliminary discussions on a new village phone system. Village Clerk Deborah Bachert reported on upcoming training on the Freedom of Information Act changes. There were a couple complaints on the long Trick or Treat hours. Three ordinances and two resolutions dealing with the Illinois Route 1 and Route 394 work were pulled from the agenda because of a lack of response from IDOT. The annual Christmas Parade will be held on Route 1 on Saturday, December 5, from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Video Events was given permission to post a temporary sign for 90 days. The board spent considerable time discussing the Moray Terrace Estates Subdivision and a boundary line agreement with Sauk Village. Cornell Hudson is a reporter for Russell Publications.
