Grant Park Nursery Damaged in Storm Share
Excessively strong winds and rains that came through the area on Sunday afternoon and evening did a lot of damage to the greenhouse buildings of Sunrise Nursery, owned by the Woldhuis family in Grant Park. According to Dan Woldhuis, the microburst and heavy winds damaged a brand new, 10,000-foot greenhouse and flattened and damaged 30,000 perennials. It blew the plastic roofs off some 30 separate plant buildings and took the roof off of a pole barn. It also damaged a grain auger, which was flipped over and broken and bent. An adjoining display garden is now full of debris as a result of the havoc caused by the wind and rains.
