Citizens invited to welcome Company C Share
Manteno Village President Timothy Nugent is calling on citizens and businesses in Manteno to participate in the upcoming motorcade parade for Illinois National Guard Company C, 1st Battalion, 178th Infantry Regiment. Sometime between July 31 and Aug. 2, Company C will arrive home from serving in Afghanistan. Two of the 127 members of Company C are from Manteno. Company C is Kankakee County's unit. The last time a local community rally took place for troops was in 1940. Company C will arrive at Fort McCoy in west-central Wisconsin first. The soldiers will be transported by buses, and Illinois State Police will make sure they do not have to stop until they are home. The motorcade will exit Interstate 57 at Manteno, travel through Manteno to Route 50, head south on Route 50 through Bourbonnais and Bradley, merge onto Indiana Avenue and head south to the National Guard Armory on Indiana Avenue in Kankakee.

The event will also be recorded on video with radio sound bites added so a commemorative DVD will be produced. Along the way, starting at the Will County/Kankakee County line on I-57 in Manteno, local police and emergency response vehicles will join in the motorcade. In Manteno, the Patriot Guard Riders of Illinois motorcycle group will join in the motorcade. At the July 20 village board meeting, Nugent said the date of their arrival may be Friday, July 31 in the early afternoon. ''Manteno is their first exit off of I-57, so we want to make a good impression,'' Nugent said. A staging area for emergency vehicles that will join in the motorcade, along with the Patriot Guard Riders of Illinois, will be located near McDonald's restaurant on South Creek Drive. ''We are calling for people to decorate the area,'' Nugent said. ''We hope to draw more people in Manteno than any other town along their route. Please come out and cheer for the troops.''
