Manteno FFA Foundation Drive begins Share
Each year during the fall, the more than 300 FFA chapters from across Illinois come together to raise funds for the Illinois Foundation FFA. In addition to the many other activities that the Manteno FFA chapter embarks upon, members and supporters are currently among the group that is helping with this outstanding effort. Formerly the Future Farmers of America, the National FFA Organization changed its name in 1988 to reflect the many opportunities outside of production agriculture that are available to its members. Chapter members are currently seeking tax-deductible contributions from individuals and businesses interested in supporting the Illinois FFA through the state foundation drive. Gifts to the Illinois Foundation FFA are used to support local FFA chapters and help agricultural education students improve themselves and their communities. The Illinois Foundation FFA also provides support for Illinois FFA leadership camp, the state FFA officer team, and it provides recognition at the chapter, district, and state level for students through proficiency awards and career development events. Through the support of 30-plus community members and businesses, Manteno FFA members raised $3,400 last year for the Illinois Foundation FFA, placing them among the top 10 chapters in the state for foundation fundraising. They hope to surpass that mark in the 2009 campaign, with a goal of $3,500! The chapter recognizes the current challenges of the economy and appreciates the ongoing support of individuals and businesses who support their fundraising efforts.

Individuals and businesses interested in supporting this year's drive can contact Brea (Nelson) Harms at 712-202-8889 to make their tax-deductible gifts. The chapter hopes to wrap up its foundation fundraising efforts by mid-December, so supporters are encouraged to offer their support by that time. With more than 17,000 Illinois FFA members, the FFA Organization is a strong contributor to the development of students throughout the state. The FFA makes a positive difference in the lives of students by developing their potential for premier leadership, personal growth and career success through agricultural education. Russell Publications prints several community newspapers each week, serving Will, Kankakee and Cook counties.
