Nahshaun C. Ozia, 27, of Chicago, could be facing up to 30 years in prison if he is convicted of an armed robbery at a Bradley credit union in May.

Ozia was also residing at 318 W. Division St. in Manteno.

Now he is being held on $200,000 bond at the Jerome Combs Detention Center in Kankakee.

The robbery took place at about 9:30 a.m., May 5, at the Illiana Credit Union, 565 E. North Street. A Daily Journal report said that during the robbery, Ozia displayed a handgun, allegedly jumped over a counter and robbed the credit union while wearing a surgical mask.

Two credit union clerks were in the facility during the robbery, but no customers. No one was injured. The robber fled with a bag of money.

Investigators have not found the cash.

On May 9, Kankakee police found the getaway car on Crestlane Drive in Kankakee. Evidence of a dye pack explosion was found in the car. Dye packs are placed in stored money bags. If a money bag is stolen and opened, the dye pack will explode, leaving evidence on money for investigators to see.

Police had been monitoring Ozia for about three months, following a tip from an informant, said Bradley Police Chief Steve Coy.

Bradley Police, the FBI and the Kankakee Project Safe Neighborhoods Task Force were involved in the investigation.

At 3 p.m. Friday, Nov. 20, Ozia was arrested by Illinois State Police on Interstate 57 north of Manteno.

Ozia was arrested without incident during the traffic stop. At the time he was arrested, Ozia had a loaded .44-caliber Rueger Blackhawk revolver.

On Monday, Nov. 23, he was charged with one count of armed robbery and one count of aggravated unlawful use of a weapon.

A hearing will take place at 9:30 a.m., Dec. 8, before Chief Judge Clark Erickson at the Kankakee County Courthouse.

The Federal Bureau of Investigation may pursue federal criminal charges against Ozia.
