District 161 Reimbursed for Improvements
» Russell Publications News Service - Frankfort Neue Press - 08.21.08

District 161 officials accepted a check for $409,844 from Frankfort Township Highway Commissioner Bill Carlson, reimbursement for district dollars spent on improvements for North Avenue near Summit Hill Junior High School.

The project included widening of lanes, drainage improvements and addition of curbs and was designed to provide for more efficient and safe traffic flow at the school site.

Summit Hill School officials and Carlson formalized a "project partnership" with an intergovernmental agreement last year. Work on the road improvements took place during spring and summer of 2007 and was completed just before the new junior high opened last fall.

"Project oversight by Frankfort Township Highway Commissioner Bill Carlson was exemplary," said Superintendent Keith Pain.

"The school district is fortunate to be able to work so closely with Mr. Carlson and the Frankfort Township Highway (District) for the benefit of the taxpayers.

"The resulting improvements very much increase the beauty of the school surroundings and the safety of our students."
