Aqua Illinois Threatens 'No Water' to 400 Homes
» Katie Carr - Manteno News - 08.21.08

Aqua Illinois and United Meters, Inc. have threatened to shut off water to 400 homes in the Manteno area if they don't immediately schedule a time for their meters to be changed out, according to Acting Village Administrator Bernie Thompson.

Aqua Illinois plans to shut off water to 100 homes this week and will continue to shut off more into the following weeks. Those who will be shut off have been contacted multiple times via letters and phone calls to schedule a free meter change, but have refused, Thompson said during the Aug. 18 village board meeting.

The meter change process began in April with 3,900 meters, and Aqua Illinois hoped to be completed by the end of July. They're now aiming for mid-September.

To avoid losing water service or to get it back after it's been turned off, contact Aqua Illinois at (877) 987-2782 or United Meters at (877) 533-8964 to schedule a free appointment.

In addition, the board voted to approve a business development agreement between the Village of Manteno and Shreffler's Land of Lincoln Harley-Davidson. It is a five year agreement with the village to share the sales tax from a museum and speciality sales center at 291 Cypress Drive.

Also during the board meeting, the amendments for Manteno's comprehensive plan were approved. The changes included renaming the 67-acre Manteno Community Park from a school area to a park area.

The board announced this Friday will be the last free "Movie in the Park" night at Heritage Park. The movie shown will be "High School Musical II."
