Bowling Center Updates Scoring
» Katie Carr - Peotone Vedette - 08.21.08

The Peotone Bowling Center is celebrating its 10th anniversary by bringing its eight lane bowling alley into the 21st century.

An electronic scoring system is set to be installed on Aug. 25, and it will include eight 32-inch flat screen monitors and two flat screen televisions hanging above the lanes at Peotone Bowling.

The alley will also be installing a new touch screen cash register that will accept credit cards.

In the past, the center only accepted cash, but installed an ATM on-site about two years ago.

The gutters will also be installed with removable bumpers.

The alley, which has been operating since 1946 and is owned by the Jurres family of Peotone since 1998, has only used a "paper and pencil" way of scoring.

"It was time to be in the 21st century," LouAnn Jurres said. "Most alleys have this now."

The system will take three to four days to install, and over 10 hours of training are required.

"We're excited about it, but dreading it too," Gary Jurres said. "Training and getting all the bugs worked out will be hard."

In addition to electronic scoring, the screens will show over 300 color animations, have a ball speed display, bowling games, lane statistics and the ability to switch screens to follow a bowler or team to a new lane.

The center is buying a system called "Jack," from QubicaAMF, and the alley will not be open while it is being installed. However, the Milt's Again Lounge, which is connected to the center, will be open.
