Angels Go to Camp
» Barb Dorman - Grant Park Gazette - August 28, 2008

Angels on Assignment was formed to support families and children dealing with serious illness. This organization has raised approximately $500,000 and served hundreds of local residents.

Angels on Assignment is a volunteer organization dedicated to helping children by providing emotional support with "fun days away from illness" and working with local charities.

Camp Quality is one such charity. "Camp Q" is also a non-profit organization that is committed to bringing hope and happiness to every child living with cancer, to their families and to communities through ongoing quality recreational, educational, hospital and financial support programs.

Camp Quality passionately believes that the power of fun helps children and their families overcome the challenges that cancer brings. Fun flows through everything they do, from their programs to their philosophies. Camp Q provides fun therapy for every child living with cancer and to their families.

Camp Q is a summer camping experience and year-round support program for children with cancer. Many difficult physical and emotional challenges face a child and his or her family, when battling cancer. Camp Quality summer camps have developed an important type of "therapy". With a laugh in their hearts and smiles on their faces, Camp Q kids find themselves capable of more than they may have dreamed possible.

Camp Q has built its reputation on personalized care. Every camper is paired with a companion who is dedicated completely to his or her care. Companions are fun to be with, adventuresome, great listeners and are always sharing their love for life. Their primary responsibility is to make sure their camper has the most enjoyable, safe, relaxing and restoring experience possible.

Camp Q gives a child with cancer the opportunity to be a child again by providing enjoyment and a positive atmosphere. This positive atmosphere quite often gives them the courage to continue on through treatment.

Camp Quality gives the families of children with cancer a much-needed break. The impact of the diagnosis and treatment places tremendous stress on parents and siblings.

Camp Quality's programs are focused on care for the emotional needs of children and their families as they face the 'bad days' and celebrate the good ones with a support network of peers who provide tremendous strength and hope.

Camp Quality is all about fun therapy because "laughter is the best medicine."
