New Lenox Park District Board Appointed New Commissioner
» Russell Publications News Service - New Lenox Community Reporter - August 28, 2008

Following the retirement of New Lenox Park Board's President Raymond Stawick, a special appointment process was conducted to fill the park board's commissioner vacancy. Personal interviews of each interested candidate were held, followed by an appointment session in order for the park board to make its choice for the position.

The park board has selected long-standing New Lenox Township resident Ross Jansma as the individual to fill the commissioner vacancy, through April, 2009.

Jansma, along with his wife of 29 years, Cindy, is the owner of DRC Enterprise, Inc., a successful local trucking operation. With his three children grown, his involvement with the youth of this community is long standing and dates back to a time where he was a coach and board member of the New Lenox Rebels Baseball Association.

He recalls a time when the nearest park to his home was four miles away.

"I have been a community advocate for recreational activities, sports, as well as the importance of a strong park district for a long time. With my new position on the park board, I hope to continue to be able to ensure that New Lenox Park District, as well as The Sanctuary Golf Course, continues to grow and remain a strong influence in our community."

One vision he hopes to assist in bringing to the New Lenox community is the construction of a recreational center as well as a centralized headquarters for the staff of the park district. "With the tremendous growth that this area has experienced, adequate facilities for both our residents and the staff members that provide the park district services should be a priority."
