Monee Fall Faire Sept. 5, 6 and 7
» Barb Dorman - Monee Monitor - September 4, 2008

The small-town ambiance and sense of pride will once again be shown off during the Monee Fall Faire on September 5, 6 and 7.

Once again this annual weekend of fun and games will take place at Firemen's Park.

Getting the event started will be the village-wide garage sale from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Friday and Saturday.

There will be over 100 homes involved, with many hidden treasures just waiting for passersby to pull in the driveway and browse.

Saturday morning, the parade line up will be at 8:30 a.m. with step-off at 10 a.m.

This year, the Grand Marshals will be Joe and Lynette De Rose.

Lynette was chairperson of the Fall Faire for many years.

Missy Tovo has taken over as chairperson and commented, "It is going to be difficult to fill Lynette's shoes. She did an excellent job."

Officially opening at 4 p.m. on Friday will be the carnival with new, bigger and scarier rides. The carnival will close on Friday at midnight. Saturday the fun will begin again at 11 a.m. and run to midnight.

There will be more fun from noon to 8 p.m. on Sunday. Food, craft and service vendors will be open during the same hours.

The senior tent this year will once again be sponsored by Trustee Dan Tovo and his wife, Missy. All Monee seniors are invited to join the Tovos and enjoy free refreshments, snacks and good music. The tent will be open from 4 p.m. to midnight on Friday, 1 to 11 p.m. on Saturday and 1 to 8 p.m. on Sunday.

The beer garden will open at 4 p.m. on Friday and have the South Suburban Mitsubishi tap team serving beer. The Billy Childers Band will perform traditional and contemporary country music at 8 p.m. This high energy show is sure to keep dancers on the floor and the audience entertained.

A local band, Skunk City, will perform classic rock on a tight rope above its magic carpet from 8 p.m. to midnight on Saturday. The tap team serving beer for the evening will be the Iroquois Paving Corp.

An Indiana band, Hessville Star, will shine with an element of fun and surprise. Expect to hear a diverse array of tunes that will not be heard anywhere else.

Friday, there will also be Karaoke by George from 4 to 7:30 p.m. and a teen dance in the family tent from 8 p.m. to midnight.

Saturday will feature a double elimination bean bag tournament at 2 p.m. and DJ Krazee Kevin will be spinning the cd's and playing the latest hit music. In the Family Zone, a costume dance party will be hosted at noon with Jodi's Juggle Jam and a music fest to follow at 1:30 p.m.

Expect to get excited about science with Steve Belliveau. This fast-paced science show will be sure to amaze, entertain and educate children and adults.

A variety show with Dave Fleming will start at 4:30 p.m. Another teen dance will be from 8 to 11 p.m. Music and teens are a timeless combination. What better way to ensure success and safety than to have teenagers attend a dance in an amazing setting at the Faire?

Sunday is the finale to the Fall Faire with the sixth annual Monee in Motion, a 5K run and fitness walk, sponsored by McDonalds of Monee, through the beautiful town of Monee. Resident will cheer on the contestants to show support. There will be three water stations and split timers at the one- and two-mile markers. Awards will be given to Overall Top Male Runner and Overall Top Female Runner. First, second and third places will be awarded to male and female runners in eight different age categories. Be assured that in case of rain, the RUN must go on.

From 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Showcase Classics will host an open car show with hot rods, muscle cars, big fins, antiques and custom cars. This show should prove to be one of the biggest in the area with 33 classes, 100-plus trophies including Best of Show and Participant's Choice.

Monkeys and More animal show, another costume party and John Measner the Magician will perform along, and there will be interactive giveaways, at the Family Zone.

A petting zoo, pony rides and family stage entertainment will also be available on Sunday. The finals in the bean bag tournament will also take place.

The Monee Volunteer Fire Department will host its $10K raffle. The grand prize is $10,000 cash; second prize is $1,000; third - 12th prizes, $100; and 13th - 25th prizes, $50. There will only be 2,500 tickets sold, at $10 each, for this raffle. The drawing will be held on Sunday at Fireman's Park in Monee (winner need not be present). Tickets are available at both fire stations in Monee. The firefighters will also sell tickets all three days of the Fall Faire. Due to the reconstruction of the kitchen at Fireman's Park, the fire department will not have its annual fish fry this year. MFD looks forward to selling you a ticket.

Closing the Fall Faire will be fireworks by Mad Bomber. Not just another fireworks company, it uses experience, advanced technology and proven tools to create an incredible event that will keep spectators excited.

This great event could not have been held without Title sponsors Bailly Ridge Corporate Center and LFI Industrial. Co-sponsors are Double D Special Events, Green Garden, Gas City, Steamboat, The Creamery, McDonalds of Monee, Interstate Asphalt, Village of Monee Parks and Recreation, Iroquois Paving Corp. and South Suburban Mitsubishi.
