L-W Central's Softball Team Accepts Congratulatory Messsages

Lincoln-Way Central's state championship softball team has had a busy few weeks gracefully accepting congratulatory messages from area elected officials.

Members of the 2008 state champion softball team, along with coach Dick Mandella, Athletic Director Joel Pallisard and Principal Dr. Moncia Schmitt, were honored by the Ninety-Fifth General Assembly House of Representatives by the invitation of Representative Renee Kosel.

The girls received House Resolution 1460 honoring their accomplishments and passed on August 13.

The team was seated in the Speakers Gallery while Rep. Kosel read the proclamation, then invited them down to the House floor for a personnel tour, which she conducted.

The evening before the start of school, August 18, the New Lenox Village Board honored the team with a proclamation read by Mayor Tim Baldermann.

In the proclamation Mayor Baldermann declared: Whereas the 2008 Lincoln-Way Central girls Softball Team made all of their families very proud with their dedication to the sport of softball, as well as their overwhelming sportsmanship and outstanding teamwork.

These allowed them to bring home the 2008 Class A State Championship to New Lenox, do hereby extend congratulations to all the coaches, parents, administrators, and especially the players of the 2008 Lincoln-Way girls Softball Team who were crowned 2008 Class A Softball Champions."

"The positive student recognition from the community is appreciated by our students and coaches. They are a dedicated group of young women who have shown their teamwork and discipline both in the classroom and on the field," said Dr. Schmitt.

"It's Always Knight Time" according to the Will County Board and Will County Executive's proclamation the softball team was given on August 21. Five representatives of the team, along with Coach Mandella, Athletic Director Pallissard and Dr. Schmitt attended at the invitation of County Board member Richard Brandolino, Will County Chairman Jim Moutsis, and Tom Weigel, board member.

Members of the 2008 Lincoln-Way Central Girls Softball Team are: Cassie Redman, Gabe Gavoni, Courtney Dunker, Rachel Larson, Brittnie Boerema, Amanda Rafferty, Aly Holzhauer, Jackie Dugan, Desi DeMarco, Gina Brown, Jackie Soch, Mary Vrablic, Michelle Markelz, Rebecca Aiken, Alison Towery, Kali Tobias, Trish Dugan, Stephanie Rassman, Brittany Ryan, Samantha Dundek, Noel Harmon, and Lauren Hickey. Coaches are Head Coach Mandella; Bob Schaper, hitting coach; Mary Bedinger, pitching coach; and Ryan Mandella, assistant.
