Schools normally do not raise funds for students, period. Illinois Lutheran, as other tuition-based schools, does offer financial assistance; however, there are times when a little bit more is needed, and that comes from its students, teachers and friends.
Emily Tegtemeyer lost her father during the summer, and with the loss of a parent can come some financial difficulties. Bill, her father, always had a wish for Emily to attend Illinois Lutheran - elementary, junior high and eventually, high school. To help realize this wish, a friend of Emily, Kathy Wilkening, talked to her mother, Connie, who does fund-raising for a company known as Thrivent Financial.
As a result, a car wash was organized wherein students, teachers and even parents of some of the students showed up on the beautiful sunny, hot day at Illinois Lutheran, 448 Cass Street in Crete, to help wash cars. They also brought pizza, lemonade, water and anything else the kids would need to get through the day. It was a wonderful day of friendship and fellowship.
"It was humbling to watch all of these people have one common goal, to help my daughter, Emily, receive an education at Illinois Lutheran. I was worried about Emily, but this has brought her friends closer and has assisted in helping her grieve," Elaine Tegtemeyer said.
