Bring your family and friends to beautiful downtown Manteno on September 18-21 and walk along Manteno's historical Main Street to enjoy all that Oktoberfest brings.
Oktoberfest is sponsored by the Manteno Chamber of Commerce, with a title sponsor, Vulcan Materials Company, and is proud to offer new and exciting attractions as well as past favorites to Oktoberfest 2008.
New to the fest is the Pet Parade that will start at Legion Park at 6 p.m. on Friday, September 19 (registration begins at 5:30 p.m.), and will proceed down Main Street.
Also new to the fest is the Manteno Oktoberfest Run for Education 5K Run and 2-Mile Fun Walk Sunday, September 21.
The 5K Run begins at Manteno High School, 443 N Maple Street. It winds through the streets of Manteno, including the Oktoberfest site, and ends on the school's running track.
The 2-Mile Fun Walk takes place on the high school property and surrounding neighborhoods.

Once again, Oktoberfest will include the Kid's Corner, sponsored by Vulcan Materials Company. This attraction will be held on Saturday and Sunday from noon to 5 p.m. and feature a 24-foot tall rock climbing wall, Manteno's largest sandbox for fossil digging, and a chance to make your own pet rock! Back by popular demand, Vulcan Materials will be giving guided tours of the Vulcan quarry. Climb aboard a tour bus on Saturday and Sunday from noon to 5 p.m. for an exciting trip 200 feet to the bottom of the quarry.
The not-to-be-missed Lighted Parade will begin at 7 p.m. on Saturday Night and will include Manteno's Citizen of the Year Jeff Jarvis as the Grand Marshal.
The Strongman Performance will be at noon on Saturday in the Family Tent entertaining its audience with the dead lift, the farmers hold, log clean and press, plus more. Also on Saturday in the family tent, there will be a martial arts exhibit at 3 p.m. and Dance Alive at 4 p.m., followed by the Showcase of Bands beginning 8 p.m.
The carnival opens Thursday at 5 p.m. and will include rides for children of all ages. Unlimited ride specials are offered for $15 on Thursday, 5 p.m. to close, Saturday and Sunday, noon-4 p.m. Money saving coupons are available at local gas businesses and can be used Thursday only.
Don't forget Garage Sale Days on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday. You can pick up a map at in-town gas stations listing the addresses Ð and showing their locations Ð of the 65-75 residences that are participating.
Stroll over to the United Methodist Church at 255 W. Second Street on Saturday, September 20, from 9 a.m.- 4 p.m. and shop at the many vendors selling everything from used jewelry, handmade crafts and Tastefully Simple products.
Other weekend events include: food tent, street vendors, car show, Chili Cook-off, and an Oktoberfest favorite, the Lawnmower Poker Run.
Playing some favorites once again at the fest is the Happy Bettenhausen Trio. Also, the Beer Garden will be filled with the sounds of "All Star Music Machine," "World Class Noise" and "Maggie Speaks."
