Lincoln-Way West will be known as the Warriors and will be easily recognized in black, orange and white.
The mascot and colors for the newest of the District 210 high schools, now under construction, were chosen by Lincoln-Way Central students, who will attend West when it opens next fall.
The colors and mascot were announced at a press conference at Central last week, after a dramatic drumroll by Niki Sieger, a sophomore, who will attend the New Lenox high school.
Students voted twice on their top choices for colors and mascot, selecting them from among a field of 10 color combinations and 11 possible mascots.
The first vote came on August 27, during Western Civilization and United States History classes. In that vote, the students narrowed their choices to three color combinations and three mascots.
The second and final vote, on September 3, determined the selection of black-orange-and-white Warriors.
"The students voted and picked bold, vibrant colors," noted Superintendent Lawrence Wyllie.

"We will be working with a graphics artist to come up with Lincoln-Way's own Warrior mascot. The District 210 Advisory Committee was part of this process, and the kids were part of the process. We have two good groups of colors and mascots for our two new schools.
"The next step is to get moving. We need to order uniforms for band, athletics, cafeteria and maintenance personnel, and the field turf."
During the announcement of the new mascot and school colors, Lincoln-Way West was represented by students who wrote winning essays about why they should be able to attend the press conference. Future West students were allowed to participate in the essay contest.
The students were Eddie Brennan, Justin Butterfield, Matt Carroll, Myranda Eckberg, Sarah Garvick, Danny Fiufer, Richard Kaemerer, Alex Kirkeeng, Laurent Majewski, Jimmy McHale, Matt McManus, Lauren Penders, Danilo Panici, Katrina Prospero, Kaitlyn Ray, Matt Ruettiger, Zachary Schoppen, Katie Stellwagon, Danielle Thompson, Drew Williams and Kalin Winans.
Also present at the press conference were Central Principal Monica Schmitt, members of the District 210 Education Foundation, the Lincoln-Way Advisory Committee and the 2006 referendum steering committee.
