Homecoming Plans Under Way
» Katie Carr - Peotone Vedette - 09.11.08

As Peotone High School begins its preparations for the Oct. 10-11 Homecoming weekend, the board approved the Homecoming Parade route for Friday, Oct. 10 at the Sept. 8 village board meeting.

The parade will begin at 4 p.m. and the route is identical to last year's, going along Corning Ave. to West St., 2nd St., then to Garfield and back to the high school.

The PHS Blue Devils football teams will play the Sandwich Indians, with games starting at 5:30 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. on Oct. 10.

The homecoming dance will be on Sat., Oct. 11 at 7 p.m.

The board also approved a request from the Knights of Columbus to sell Tootsie Rolls in the village Sept. 19-21. The funds collected will be donated to charitable organizations.

In addition, a sewer grouting project was awarded to National Power Rodding, with a bid price of $99,008.70. The board budgeted $70,000 for this project and will stay at that number, but cut back the work to be done during the project.

The board also approved the purchase of a Ford F350 from Terry Ford in Peotone. Four local car dealers bid on the purchase, with the lowest bid being $23,465 from Terry Ford. The truck will be used by the Street Department and is a 2009 one-ton, four-wheel-drive pickup truck equipped with suspension and auxiliary gear to accommodate a snowplow. The truck will replace a 1997 pickup having 120,000 miles on it.

A resolution amending the sunset provision to the Tax Recovery Fund was approved by the board. This legislation requires the state to "make whole" any potential property tax losses due to state ownership of land bought for the proposed Peotone airport.

The board voted to extend the legislation to Dec. 31, 2020, instead of keeping the sunset date at Dec. 31, 2010. This amendment will provide more protection to local taxing bodies from loss of funding. The adopted resolution will now be sent to the state legislature for action.

Additionally, bills were paid in the amount of $61,931.85.
