» Barb Dorman - Steger News - 09.18.08

The Steger Area Chamber of Commerce, Steger Kiwanis and the Village of Steger once again will welcome the fall season with Oktoberfest on Halsted Boulevard, September 20 and 21. The highlight of the two-day event will be the Kiwanis Chili Kookin' Kontest on Sunday.

Oktoberfest will be held from noon until 10 p.m. on both days. Starting at the Veteran's Memorial and village gazebo, there wull be bands, food vendors, crafters, pony rides, a magic show, a petting zoo and wagon rides taking place along the beautiful tree-lined street suited perfectly for a fall outdoor activity. From 6 to 10 p.m., local favorite band, Near Beer, will be performing country rock in the gazebo.

On Sunday, Oktoberfest goers will be able to sample the chili contest entries. A founding member of the 50-year-old Kiwanis organization, Village President Lou Sherman said proceeds will go to Kiwanis Kids. Experienced judges will decide the winners. Cash prizes will be awarded.
