CMAP Community Conversation Held in Beecher
» Terry Gatlin - Beecher Herald - 10.02.08

On Tuesday, September 23, Hubert Morgan and Janet Bright from the Chicago Metropolitan Agency for Planning (CMAP) were at the Washington Township Center in Beecher to conduct a community conversation regarding the future of the seven counties in CMAP's area - Cook, DuPage, Kane, Kendall, Lake, McHenry and Will.

During this community conversation, 28 members from Beecher, Washington Township, Crete, Crete Township and other communities met to discuss how they would like this area to look in 2040. They understood that it would take time for the area to develop.

The important issue was to discuss how this area would be 32 years from now.

-What is unique about your community and your topic?

-Identify one or two things from other parts of northeastern Illinois that enrich your life and community.

-Identify one or two things that come from your community that enrich the lives of people in other parts of this region.

-If the topic your group chose to discuss was addressed and implemented in our region - tell the group what your life would be like.

Some of the results from the various tables were:

-Look out for the whole community, not just your town.

-Plan regionally and look forward.

-We need a healthy environment.

Both Morgan and Bright wish to return to Beecher to share the ideas from other communities in the seven-county area.

CMAP is at 233 South Wacker Drive, Suite 800, Sears Tower, Chicago, IL 60606. For more information, residents can call Bright at 312-386-8748 or contact her by email at jbright@cmap.illinois.gov. One can also go on-line at www.cmap.illinois.gov.
