Summit Hill School District officials have slated their annual State of the District presentation for Monday, October 27, at 6:30 p.m., at the District Administration Center, 20100 S. Spruce Drive in Frankfort Square.

The presentation will focus on the district's quest to provide outstanding educational opportunities for the 3,741 children it serves in the communities of Frankfort Square, Frankfort, Mokena and Tinley Park.

The meeting is open to the public.

Also at the October 8 meeting of the District 161 Board of Education, officials reviewed the timeline for the April 7 election. October 28 is the first day that candidates may circulate nominating petitions;.

From January 20 to 26, candidates must file nominating petitions and papers. February 2 is the last day to file objections to nominating papers, while February 4 has been set to conduct the lottery drawing, if necessary, for ballot positions. February 5 is the last day candidates may file notarized papers withdrawing nominations.

Meanwhile, in other business at Wednesday's meeting, the board:

-Employed Kristi Trezek as a paraprofessional, and Bridget Hallberg and Linda Drzal as substitute nurses.

-Employed Barbara Almuddaris as custodian, Mary Ellen Graff as a clerical aide, and Kathy Pirkle as school secretary.

-Accepted the auditor's "clean bill of health" for the Fiscal Year 2009 audit and commended Director of Finance Dean Gerdes for his efforts.

-Named board members Rebecca Glawe as delegate and Dee Molinare as alternate to the Illinois Association of School Boards Conference in November.

-Discussed resolutions that will come before the IASB Delegation Assembly next month.

-Heard a report from Superintendent Keith Pain that the district enrollment now totals 3,741 students.

-Learned that Illinois State School Report Cards are slated to be released on October 31.

-Authorized the superintendent to publish the Fiscal Year 2008 Annual Financial Report and to publish a notice of the 2008 Levy Hearing at 8 p.m. on December 10.

-Authorized Finance Director Gerdes to seek bids for non-medial

insurance coverage.

-Set October 15 as the date to discuss the board's presentation at the IASB conference.
