Election Comes Early for Some

Early voting for the Nov. 4 election begins on Oct. 20 and runs through Oct. 30 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Peotone Village Hall, the village announced during the Oct. 13 village board meeting.

This early voting is only for village and Will Township residents who live within village limits. Peotone and Will Township voters not living within village limits can vote early in Washington Township at 30200 Town Center Road in Beecher on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. until Oct. 30. Any registered voter can vote early somewhere; to check which location visit www.willclrk.gov or call (815) 740-4632.

The board approved a special event permit application for the Peotone Historical Society's Christmas at the Mill on Nov. 16. The event will run from noon to 3 p.m. at the Peotone Mill.

The village board also gave permission for the Peotone Chamber of Commerce to hold its annual Halloween Hot Dog Roast on Oct. 31. The roast will be at the Peotone Elementary School from 4-7 p.m.

Peotone resident and park board member Phil Hudson was approved to canvas the village Oct. 14-16 to talk to residents about sponsoring him when he runs the Oct. 25 Mackinac Island Great Turtle Half Marathon. All of the money raised will go directly to the park for maintenance, equipment and programs benefiting the park. For residents who would like to donate to the park in Hudson's name, checks can be made out and sent to the park with Hudson's name in the memo line.

In other board news:

- The village's annual audit covering the fiscal year ending March 31 came back clean and without any comments from the auditors.

- The board voted to approve a resolution establishing an identity theft and privacy protection policy. The Fair and Accurate Credit Transactions Act of 2003 directed the Federal Trade Commission to establish these rules, which are applicable to banks, credit card companies and cell phone companies, in addition to municipalities that have utility accounts. The FTC required that the entities have these policies in place on or before Nov. 1.

- The board also voted to adopt the 2008 S-14 supplement to the Code of Ordinances of the Village of Peotone, which has taken effect since being approved.

- Bills were paid in the amount of $203,158.71.
