Monical's Pizza is moving up and out, but not away from Manteno. Instead, it's moving out of its home for the last 12 years at 12-14 S. Locust and plans to move into a new, free-standing 2,400-square-foot restaurant with an 88-seat dining room on S. Creek Drive.
The village board approved the commercial site and building plans during its Oct. 20 meeting for the building that will look similar to the Monical's Pizza in Kankakee. The corporation bought the property a few years ago with the intention of moving, and they also have future plans to expand the new building to add more bathrooms and an extra 28-seat dining room if needed. Construction will probably begin next spring.
Additionally, the Manteno Girl Scouts will be active in the community during the last two months of the year. In honor of Breast Cancer Awareness Month, the Girl Scouts are organizing an awareness and remembrance walk on Nov. 2. Anyone interested is welcome to join, and they will begin the walk at the corner of Main and Third Streets.
Girl Scout cookie sales will begin Nov. 5 and extend through Nov. 30. The scouts will be selling the cookies door-to-door. Finally, on Dec. 6, the Girl Scouts will "Carol for Cans" to collect food for the Manteno Christmas Baskets and the food pantry. They will walk door-to-door singing Christmas carols while collecting non-perishable foods.

In addition, Village Administrator Bernie Thompson reminded all residents at the board meeting that Trick-or-Treat hours on Halloween are from 5:30 -7:30 p.m. In addition, the North chipper route will be ending on Nov. 17 and the South chipper route will be ending on Nov. 24. Thompson also reminded residents that leaves should be bagged and not put in the street because they clog up drains and cause problems for the street sweepers.
Thompson also reported on his Oct. 9 OSLAD grant presentation in Springfield about the 67-acre park. He was one of 189 other presenters applying for an OSLAD grant. Thompson received positive feedback from the Illinois Department of Natural Resources board, which had no major comments or questions about the layout of the proposed park.
Thompson learned that Manteno has the option to go back and ask for more OSLAD money for the later phases of the park. The board looks to hear back about the grant sometime in January.
