Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Celebration

A Day On -Not A Day Off! A Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. celebration will honor the life and work of famed civil rights leader, on Monday, January 20, at the Center for Performing Arts at Governors State University, in University Park. The keynote speaker for the celebration will be Congresswoman Robin Kelly of the 2nd Congressional District. Voter registration also will take place. Doors open at 10:30 a. m., with the program beginning at 11 a. m.

Eligible for the license plate discount? Contact Senior Assistance for details at 708-258-6917, or drop by St. Paul the Apostle Catholic Church, 511 N. Conrad in Peotone on Thursday, January 16, from 10:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Senior Assistance staff can get residents a refund and enroll them in the Benefit Access Application program (formerly Circuit Breaker) if he/she is a senior or disabled.

Fibromites Unite to Meet January 25

Fibromites Unite is a local support group for fibromyalgia patients and their families. The group meets the fourth Saturday of every month at St. Margaret Mercy Hospital in Dyer, from 10 a.m. to noon - offering support, friendship, understanding, reassurance, guest speakers and social activities.

Girl Scout Cookie Sale

Girl Scouts of Greater Chicago and Northwest Indiana, Service Unit 714, which serves Peotone, Green Garden, and Wilton Center, began selling Girl Scout Cookies on January 1! Eight varieties of cookies may be ordered until April 1.

Trinity Church Recovery Ministry

A 12-Step Recovery Program with a Biblical Perspective

Trinity Church has a recovery ministry, "Celebrate Recovery - Support Group," for those struggling with addictions.

The group meets each Monday from 7 - 8 p.m., at Trinity House - 26900 South Will-Center Road in Monee.

Group leaders are experienced people who have gone through their own period of recovery and have a deep understanding of what others are going through. The meetings are sure to encourage attendees and provide confidence. It is understood that recovery can be quite hard, and organizers will do their best to make all feel welcome. Refreshments will be served.

For additional information or to register, call 708-534-9084. The office is open Monday through Friday, from 9 a.m. to noon. An answering machine is available after hours.

Meals on Wheels Needs Volunteers

The Crete branch of Meals on Wheels is seeking volunteers to deliver meals to older or disabled persons in Crete. Anyone able to spare two hours per week or month, or if you would prefer to be a helper or substitute, please call Sharon at 815-838-5885. Senior citizens are on waiting lists because there are not enough volunteers.
