Manteno Blanks Bradley

Manteno Blanks Bradley

Using the turf football/soccer field at Bradley, Manteno was able to beat the odds and play some softball on March 21.

Panther senior Brooke Stulga limited the Boilermakers to four hits and two walks as Manteno shut out Bradley 8-0 in a non-conference season opener. Stulga fanned 13.

"I thought we played pretty well today," Manteno coach Josh Carlile said. "This being our first day outside I thought our girls made quick adjustments that paid off late in the game.

"Overall it was just great to get outside. It was neat to play on Bradley's football field, and we appreciated getting to see a quality team today."

The Panthers broke into the scoring column with a run in the second. Manteno added two in the fourth and three in the fifth. The Panthers iced the game with two more in the seventh.

Manteno pounded out 10 hits. Carly Trepanier (double) and Kiley Zajdzinski (homer) each had two hits for the Panthers. Aimee Holcomb also nailed a solo homer for Manteno.

Along with Trepanier, Cheyenne Koehne, Leegan Boudreau and Selena Schulteis each had a double. Jackie Beck drove in a pair of runs.
