Panthers Beat Mac In Slugfest

Leegan Boudreau and Jackie Beck each nailed grand slam homers to lead Manteno to a 12-10 non-conference win over Bishop McNamara on March 29.

Hitters on both sides were strong at the plate as the teams combined for 20 hits, including six extra base hits.

The game was back-and-forth heading into the fifth, with seven lead changes.

Manteno took the lead in the fifth inning and held on for the victory. The Panthers scored on a three-run home run by Aimee Holcomb off Baylee Hull, scoring Leegan Boudreau and Selena Schulteis.

"All I can say is a win is a win," Panther coach Josh Carlile remarked. "If you would have asked me this morning before the game how this would turn out I would never guessed 22 runs would have been scored.

"I was happy with our hitting and pitching, but we have to do a better job defensively. We made a lot of mistakes. We can blame the weather and we can blame being stuck in the gym or we can take ownership and work harder to get better."

The Panthers committed seven errors leading to seven unearned runs.

Down 2-0 in the first, it didn't take long for Panthers to answer as they scored five runs of their own in the first. Manteno scored on an RBI single by Sammy Beckwith and Boudreau followed with a roundtripper with the bases filled.

The Panthers scored four runs of their own in the fourth highlighted by Beck's grand slam.

Carly Trepanier was 3-for-3 for the Panthers. Brooke Stulga also had a pair of hits.

Stulga earned the win allowing just three earned runs over the seven innings. The senior fanned nine, walked three and allowed 10 hits.

The Panthers are now 2-0.
