Panthers Dominate H-F, Momence

Manteno added two more non-conference wins as on April 1, the Panthers blanked Homewood-Flossmoor 10-0, and the next day, Manteno won 18-1 over Momence.

Against Homewood-Flossmoor, Brooke Stulga fired a three-hit shutout over the five innings as she fanned 11. Stulga also helped her cause with three hits including a double and a triple along scoring three runs and knocking in two.

Cheyenne Koehne had two hits with a triple and drove in two runs. Jackie Beck (2 runs), Sammy Beckwith (2 RBIs), Leegan Boudreau (2 runs, RBI), and Aimee Holcomb (run, RBI) each also had two hits as the Panthers had 13 hits.

"The score of today's game did not completely reflect how this game turned out," Panther coach Josh Carlile said. "Homewood Flossmoor played a decent game, and their pitcher did a nice job. I was happy to see us hit a lefty who threw with decent velocity the way we did."

Beck took the ball against Momence. The junior held the Redskins five hits and two walks as she gave up an unearned run. Beck struck out four.

"Today was a nice day of softball for us," Carlile said. "I was especially happy with how well Jackie pitched. She has worked hard all offseason to fix some mechanical issues, and today got back on the mound for the first time. She pitched well and I am proud of her."

After a two-run first, the Panthers added seven in the second and eight more in the third.

Manteno pounded out 22 hits as Kiley Zajdzinski (double) was 4-for-4 with a run and an RBI. Carly Trepanier (2 runs, 3 RBIs, double, triple), Boudreau (2 runs, RBI), and Aimie Holcomb (2 runs, 5 RBIs, homer) each had three hits.

Selena Schulteis (run, 3 RBIs, triple), Stulga (3 runs), Koehne (2 runs) and Kierstynn Kinast (2 runs, RBI) each contributed two hits.

The Panthers are 5-0 on the season.
