Manhattan House Fire

Mahattan house fire on Baker Road

A barbecue grill in the back yard is believed to be the reason why a home caught fire on Mother's Day, according to Bruce Boyle, Manhattan Fire Protection District battalion fire chief. No one was injured. The fire occurred Sunday afternoon, in the 14400 block of Baker Road, on the northeast corner of Baker and Cedar Roads. The original report was a grill on fire, then when the firefighters arrived, they discovered flames spreading to the attic of the house, he said. Fire fighters remained on the scene for about three hours. Approximately eight fire departments responded, including East Joliet, Elwood, New Lenox and Frankfort, he said. Photo by Erin Gallagher
