L-W Central Athletics host spring signing ceremony

Lincoln-Way Central Athletic Department hosted its spring college signing day on Wednesday, May 7, in the Knights Round Table Hall at Central High.

Eight Central student athletes participated in the National Letter of Intent ceremony: Patrick Michalak, Beth Senese, Jamie Sexauer, Ryan Champlin, Ben Zibricky, Kristi Howe, Bryce Gorman and Jack Meadows.

Each student was introduced by their respective coaches and a brief history about each student athlete was given to all the family members and friends gathered for the signing ceremony.

Patrick Michalak will be playing baseball for the University of Saint Francis, Illinois His parents are Brian and Sharon Michalak from New Lenox. His baseball coach is Scott Gardner. Patrick is undecided about his major in college.

Beth Senese will swim for Lewis University next year. Her parents are Francis and Kerri Senese from New Lenox and her coach is Marlo Varnado. She is looking to major in biology and chemistry, then go to grad school majoring in pharmacy.

Jamie Sexauer will bowl for St. Ambrose University, Iowa, next year. Her parents are Mark and Rita Sexauer from New Lenox. Her head coach is Steve Paulsen. Jamie will major in marketing next year.

Ryan Champlin will play tennis next year for Olivet Nazarene University. His parents are Bob and Pam Champlin from Manhattan. His coach is Jacob Riebe. Ryan will be majoring in computer science next year.

Ben Zibricky will run track for Valparaiso University in Indiana next year. His parents are Greg and Dawn Zibricky from New Lenox. His varsity coaches are Dustin Waddell and John Taylor. Ben will major in social work.

Kristi Howe will play water polo for Gannon University in Pennsylvania next year. Her parents are David and Jamie Howe from New Lenox. Her coach is Karen Desruisseaux. Kristi will major in nursing.

Bryce Gorman will wrestle next year for Northern Illinois University. His parents are Steve and Carol Gorman from Manhattan. His head varsity coach is Jason DePolo. Bryce is undecided about his major.

Jack Meadows will run track for the St. Xavier University next year. His parents are Chris and Lynn Meadows of Manhattan. His coach is Dustin Waddell. Jack will major in business.

"Congratulations to all of the parents, brothers, sisters, and grandparents in attendance today. We thank you for the many sacrifices you made helping your children achieve excellence academically and athletically. I wish to thank your coaches for their outstanding leadership and support of these student athletes," stated Hud Venerable, L-W Central athletic director, to the crowd gathered for the signing ceremony.
