Panther Bats Silenced

In two straight games, Manteno was not able to tally a run.

On May 19, the Panthers were blanked 2-0 at Westmont in their final Interstate Eight contest. Manteno finished the conference with a 10-5-1 mark.

John Hofmeister (2-2) pitched a solid game for the Panthers. An error and back-to-back doubles produced the two Westmont runs in the fifth.

Overall, Hofmeister limited Westmont to six hits and two walks with two strikeouts.

The Panthers had a chance in the seventh to knot the score. Connor McCormick and Hofmeister singled. Brock Crews sacrificed the runners to second and third. But, a flyout and strikeout doomed the Manteno hopes.

Brandon Crockett and Drew Nichols also had hits for the Panthers.

The next day, Manteno went north to play 4A power St. Laurence, and the Vikings won 7-0.

Reliever Caleb Selk was a bright spot for the Panthers as he worked three scoreless innings scattering three hits as he fanned three.

Jack Liss, Tucker Presler and Lucas Robbins each had singles for the Panthers, who fell to 20-10-2.
