Blanchette Family Benefit

A family-friendly Blanchette family benefit concert will be held on Sunday, August 17, at 2 p.m., in the historic Majestic Theater in Kankakee.

The concert will feature artists from Tennessee, Indiana, Ohio, and Illinois - representing the Pop, Country, Hip Hop, Rap, Electronic Dance, Rock, and R&B music genres. The concert aims to provide both entertainment and benefit the Manteno based Blanchette family.

In November 2011, the head football coach of Manteno High School was tragically killed by a vehicle and left a loving wife and four children.

Tickets are available online only at http://www.spencerkanemusic.com/concertftickets.cfm and are $15 each. All ticket holders will be allowed a meet-and-greet opportunity before and after the concert event.

Senior Assistance

Peotone Senior Assistance Center will meet on Thursday, August 21, from 10:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., at St. Paul the Apostle Catholic Church, 511 N. Conrad, Peotone (708-258-6917).

The Peotone Senior Assistance Center joins the Respect Life Ministry at St. Paul's, whose mission is to protect the vulnerable and the elderly with assistance from county, state and federal programs, including Medicare, Social Security, license plate discounts, as well as other services.

Prairie Herb and Garden Guild to Meet

Prairie Herb and Garden Guild will meet Thursday, August 14, at 7 p.m., at Peotone United Methodist Church (Main and West Streets). The public is invited.

Oktoberfest Garage Sales

Now is the time to get ready for the fabulous Manteno Oktoberfest garage sales - Friday, September 26, Saturday, September 27, and Sunday, September 28. Hours are 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Friday and Saturday, but noon to 3 p.m. on Sunday.

The entry form may be downloaded at www.mantenooktoberfest.com. To have an address listed, mail entry form and a $15 check to Manteno Oktoberfest Garage Sales, P.O. Box 643, Manteno, IL 60950. Trinity Church Recovery Ministry

A 12-Step Recovery Program with a Biblical Perspective

Trinity Church has a recovery ministry, "Celebrate Recovery - Support Group," for those struggling with alcohol and other addictions.

The group meets each Monday from 7 - 8 p.m., at Trinity House - 26900 South Will-Center Road in Monee.

Group leaders are experienced people who have gone through their own period of recovery and have a deep understanding of what others are going through. The meetings are sure to encourage attendees and provide confidence. It is understood that recovery can be quite hard, and organizers will do their best to make all feel welcome. Refreshments will be served.

Elvis Tribute Artist in Concert

The Parents and Friends of Larc present Elvis Tribute Artist Joe Tirrito, in concert, on Friday, August 8, at the Knights of Columbus Hall - 178th and Lorenz Avenue, in Lansing. Tickets are on sale now for just $20, which includes a buffet-style dinner prior to the show. Coffee and water will be provided, with a cash bar available. Dinner will be served at 6 p.m.

Space is limited and seating is reserved. Call Kathy at 708-539-6995 to purchase tickets. Sorry, but tickets will not be available at the door.

Village of Manhattan Community Garage Sales

The Village of Manhattan community-wide garage sales will be held August 15, 16, and 17, from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. All participants' addresses will be listed in a map of the community. Maps will be available for distribution on August 11 at village hall - 260 Market Place, Manhattan, Monday through Friday, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Pieces and Patches Quilt Guild

Pieces and Patches Quilt Guild meets at Steger Community Center, 3501 S. Hopkins in Steger, every second Wednesday of the month. The next meeting will be held August 13. For more information, visit piecesnpatchesquiltguild.org.
