Diabetes Support Group Meeting: The Diabetes Support Group, sponsored by Riverside Diabetes Wellness Center, will begin its free fall program sessions. Area residents are invited to the "Stanford University Chronic Care Self Management" program information session on Monday, September 19, at 6:30 p.m., at Bourbonnais Public Library - 250 W. John Casey Road.

Douglas D. Corbett will be the presenter. All area residents are invited to attend this informative meeting.

Cub Scout Registration: Area boys, ages six-to-10 are invited to become Troop 315 Cub Scouts. A fall registration event will be held on Thursday, September 22, at 6:30 p.m., at Peotone Elementary School, 426 N. Conrad Street.

Oktoberfest: Mark your calendars; you won't want to miss the 14th annual Oktoberfest, September 22 - 25, in historic downtown Manteno.

Many popular and returning activities are planned, including: the Farmers' Market on Thursday, village garage sales on Friday and Saturday, bean bag tourneys, carnival rides, food galore, a car show, street vendors, craft show, entertainment, a pet parade and the always popular lighted parade, plus much, much more.

Illinois Jobs Tour Coming to Kankakee County: Stephen Moore, a senior economics writer for "The Wall Street Journal," will headline the Illinois Jobs Tour as it passes through Kankakee County on Sunday, September 18, from 3:30 to 5 p.m., at the Olivet Nazarene University Centennial Chapel in Bourbonnais.

The free interactive program will feature Moore and a panel of experts who will field questions and discuss economic policies and solutions that will provide a positive impact on the local jobs climate.

Joining Stephen Moore, to highlight the impact of policy on job availability and job retention, will be Bruce Rauner, principal, GTCR LLC; Ed Murnane, president of the Civil Justice League; Marc Levine, a budget and pension expert; and Kristina Rasmussen, executive vice president of the Illinois Policy Institute.

Secrets of Selling on eBay Made Easy: Peotone Public Library is offering a course covering the ins-and-outs of selling on eBay, on Saturday, September 24, from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. The program will be conducted by Vivienne Porter of C3 Solutions.

Participants will learn the basics of selling on eBay, including establishing a seller's account. The program continues with tips on photographing items for sale and what to include in item descriptions, along with tips to make the process of listing an item easier and stress-free.

Many of the nuances of listing an item also will be discussed, as participants are guided through the computer process of placing an item for sale on the famous internet live auction web site.

The program is free and open to the public. Please register for this event by coming into the library at 515 N. First Street or calling 258-3436.

Magician Program at Wilton Center Church: Save the Date! On Sunday, October 9, at 3 p.m., Tim Hannig, magician with a message,will performat Wilton Center Federated Church, 14101 W. Joliet Road, Manhattan - ¼ mile east of Cedar Road and Rt. 52 in Wilton Center.

Timhas performed at the White House, Six Flags, for the Chicago White Sox, as well as many other renown places. Tim's performance is perfect for the entire family, and an ice cream social will follow. A free-will offering will be accepted.

Old Mill Fall Fest: Area residents are invited to Old Mill Fall Fest this Sunday, September 18, from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m., at the H.A. Rathje Mill - 427 W. Corning Avenue in Peotone - free admission and free parking.

The historical society's popular event will feature antiques and historical exhibits, old-time crafts, demonstrations, a bake sale, fresh Kettle Korn, and tulip bulbs (for purchase) from Holland.

Enjoy delicious German food, while listening to musical entertainment on the lawn, including a hammer dulcimer with mandolin, violin and guitar, and the Odyssey Quartet.

Children will enjoy rope making, butter churning, and clown face painting.

There's something for everyone at Old Mill Fall Fest!

Roast Pork Supper: Wilton Center Federated Church will host their annual Roast Pork Supper, this Saturday, September 17, from 4:45 to 7 p.m., with carry outs also available from 4:45 - 6:45 p.m.

The supper will be served at the church - 14101 W. Joliet Road, Manhattan (U.S. Hwy. 52).

Tickets are $9 for adults, $4 for children ages five-to-10, and free for children under age five.

Park District to Host First Kickball Tourney/Pig Roast: Plans are underway for an inaugural Kickball Tournament and Pig Roast to be held at the Park District on Saturday, September 24. Team check-in is at 10 a.m., while the games begin at noon.

There will be food, music, plus other games. Team registration forms are available at the Park District Office, Throwback II, and the library.

Chamber Business Expo: Don't forget: Peotone Business Expo, will be held on Saturday, October 15, at Peotone High School. All businesses in the 60468 zip code or members of the Peotone Chamber of Commerce may participate. Home businesses also are welcome.

Pancake Breakfast: St. Paul the Apostle Catholic Church invites area residents to help celebrate its 50th anniversary at a pancake breakfast this Sunday, September 18, from 7 a.m. to noon, at the Peotone Fire Station on Joliet Road. The breakfast will feature pancakes, eggs, sausage, orange juice, milk, and coffee.

Tickets are $6 for adults, $4 for children four-to-10 years of age, and free for children three and under.

FFA Farmers Market: Peotone Farmers Market is open from 1 to 3 p.m., at the Conner Shaw Center - 212 West Wilson Street in Peotone.
