KCC lecture

Kankakee Community College will be hosting a free lecture and book signing to commemorate Martin Luther King, Junior's birthday at 12:30 p.m. on Tuesday, January 17, in the WDC Conference Hall, in Room D140. Jim Loewen, Ph.D, author of the bestselling book "Lies My Teacher Told Me: Everything Your High School History Textbook Got Wrong", will tell us what Dr. King would say about race in the U.S. today. Loewen taught race relations for 20 years at the University of Vermont as well as the predominantly black Tougaloo College in Jackson, Miss. His books also include "Across America" and "Sundown Towns: A Hidden Dimension of American Racism". The books will be for sale after the event, and can be signed by the author. Cabaret performances

"Forbidden Broadway's Greatest Hits" is bringing hilarious spoofs of classic musical theater to the Governors State University Center for Performing Arts for three performances. The show, a production of the Southland Area Theatre Ensemble (SLATE), comes to the GSU Center on at 8 p.m., Friday and Saturday, January 13 and 14, and at 4 p.m. on Sunday, January 15. Hymn sing

"Festive Hymn Sing with a British Accent" will be presented at 7 p.m. on Saturday, January 14, at Centennial Chapel on the campus of Olivet Nazarene University in Bourbonnais. Led by celebrated composer and conductor Paul Leddington Wright, principal arranger and conductor of "Songs of Praise," the BBC's long-running weekly broadcast, which is seen and heard by millions throughout the English-speaking world. This glorious evening of sacred song will include audience hymn singing, along with the 200-voice choir of Olivet's Department of Music and the accompaniment of the Ruffatti pipe organ, brasses and percussion. Organ recital

An organ recital, featuring guest organist Paul Leddington Wright, will be held at noon on Friday, January 13, at Centennial Chapel on the campus of Olivet Nazarene University in Bourbonnais.
