Winter Night Hike

A "Winter Night Hike" will be held from 4 to 6 p.m. on Saturday, January 28, at Thorn Creek Nature Preserve, 247 Monee Road, Park Forest. As the sun goes down many animals are just becoming active and, even though it is hard to see them with the fading light, you know they are there because of their calls. Join us as we walk through the twilight in anticipation of the night sounds. Come dressed for the weather. Participants should be able to walk a mile outdoors on uneven and possibly snow-covered ground. The "Winter Night Hike" program is free for all ages, but registration is required. For more information or to register for this program, please call Thorn Creek Nature Center at 708-747-6320.

Winter Walk

Explore great art and the beauty of a natural prairie landscape at the Nathan Manilow Sculpture Park's annual winter walk from 2 to 5 p.m. on Saturday, January 28, at Governors State University's main campus in University Park. Visitors should meet inside GSU's Hall of Governors. Participants should dress for winter weather and be prepared to walk at least 90 minutes. The tour will be held, snow or shine. If the daytime high temperature is predicted to be below 20 degrees, the walk will be rescheduled for the following day, Sunday, January 29. Park Curator and Director Geoffrey Bates will lead this year's winter tour of the nationally recognized sculpture park, located at Governor's State University. The winter walk is free, although reservations are required. This year's winter walk will be limited to 35 participants.
