Chamber to Host Open Forum

Peotone Chamber of Commerce will hold an Open Forum Question and Answer Session on Tuesday, February 7, from 7 - 9 p.m., in the Peotone High School Media Center. All Chamber members and Peotone businessesare invited to attend.

Discussion topics will include a synopsis of the function of the chamber,ideas to spark new interest in upcoming events, and an opportunity to ask questions of the Chamber Board.

10U Team Oak Needs Members

Helping Hands Food Pantry

The food pantry will be open to all area residents (including senior citizens and adults both with or without children who reside within the boundaries of the Peotone School District and are in need of food assistance) on Wednesdays, February 8 and 22, from 1 to 5:30 p.m., at the First Presbyterian Church Fellowship Hall - Crawford and First Streets in Peotone.

Residents, wishing to seek assistance, will need to bring a written form of proof of residency, e.g.: utility bill, driver's license or state I.D., rent receipt, etc.

Legion Offering Country Dancing

Area residents are invited to Peotone American Legion Post 392 for some evenings of fun and Country Dancing (line and couples). Instruction for new dances will be presented from 7 to 8:30 p.m., followed by open dancing beginning at 8:30 p.m. No dance experience or partner are required. For a $5 donation each evening, come and join in the fun.

Country Dancing will be held on the following Thursdays: January 26, February 9 and 23, March 8 and 22, and April 5 and 19. For additional information, call Jan Wolkow at 258-6128.

All proceeds will benefit the service programs of the Legion Post.

Join Cub Scouts/Pinewood Derby

Is your son interested in Cub Scouts? Not sure? Come to Peotone Junior High School to see local Scouts and talk to the leaders, boys, and parents at the annual Cub Scout Pinewood Derby. This popular annual event will be held this Sunday, January 29, from 1 to 6 p.m., at Peotone Junior High School.

The Scouts meet on the third Thursday of the month, at 7 p.m., in the Peotone Elementary School gym.The boys enjoy the meetings, learning, and having lots of fun. Each month the Scouts have different activities.Come join Peotone Cub Scout Pack 315.

Pancake Breakfast/Raffle and Silent Auction

Wilton Center Elementary PTO will host its annual Pancake Breakfast, Raffle, and Silent Auction this Sunday, January 29, from 7:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Tickets are $7 for adults; seniors and children six-to-12 years of age - $6; and free for children under age six. Tickets may be purchased from any Wilton Center student or at the door.

The raffle grand prize is a Broilmaster Premium Grill with a stainless steel stand. Wilton Center Elementary School is celebrating its 52nd anniversary.

Volleyball Tryouts at Kaepa Cove

Kaepa Cove (Hidden Cove) Volleyball Club announced its tryout information for the upcoming junior high (fifth - eighth) and high school (15U and 16U) club sessions.

Tryouts will be held at Hidden Cove Sportsplex in Bourbonnais on Sunday, February 5. Grades five and six will meet from noon - 1:30 p.m.; grades seven and eight, from 1:30 - 3 p.m.; and Frosh/Soph (15U - 16U), from 3 to 4:30 p.m.

Each player will need to show proof of registration within the region prior to trying out. A tryout fee will be charged for new players.

3-D Video Game

Virtual World Design

Enjoy playing video games? Ever thought of what it would take to design and program your own? With the help of Computer Explorers, participants (ages eight-to-12) can create their own 3-D video game world. With the simple click and roll of a mouse, create and modify a virtual world that you design. Learn to build mountains and structures, place animals, trees, characters, and even a dragon in a video game world! The class will discuss the basic subsystems and scripting entailed in creating a 3-D game system.

Students will receive their games on a CD to play at home after the class is completed. For those who are creative, this a great opportunity to show off design skills to family and friends!

Classes will be held on Saturdays, February 4, 11, 18, and March 3, from 10 - 11:30 a.m., at the Peotone Park District Building. Class fee is $70/child, in-district and $75 out-of-district Class size is small with a minimum of four and a maximum of 10. Preregistration is required.

Pee-Wee Basketball will be held on Sundays, February 5, 12, 19, and 26, at Peotone Junior High. The program is open to children in kindergarten through second grade. Kindergarten and first graders will meet from 1:30 to 2:30 p.m., while second graders will meet from 2:30 to 3:30 p.m.

In-district fee is $20, while those out-of-district will pay $25. (Remember, anyone living outside the village limits pays out-of-district fees.)

Daddy/Daughter Dance

The annual Daddy/Daughter Dance will be held on Friday, February 10, beginning with dinner at 6 p.m. and dancing at 6:30 p.m. The dance is open to dads and their little girls through fifth grade.

In-district tickets are $20 per couple and $5 for each additional daughter. Out-of-district tickets are $25 per couple and $5 for each additional daughter.

There will be prizes for the best-dressed couple, a dance contest, and lots of giveaways. Dad and daughter photos also will be available.
