KCC Graduate Wins Emmy

KCC graduate wins Emmy

Kankakee Community College has a long history of students and graduates who go on to great professional success, including several doctors, lawyers, business leaders, a rocket scientist with NASA and Hollywood actor Michael Clarke Duncan.

Another graduate, Jordan Arseneau, has received an Emmy award to place him at the top of his profession.

A photographer and editor at Tribune Broadcasting, parent company to WGN Television in Chicago, Arseneau recently earned an Emmy for Outstanding Achievement for Magazine Programming -- Program/Special/Series for his work on the "Chicago's Best" series. "Chicago's Best" is a food and lifestyle show which showcases restaurants in the Chicago area in various categories and cuisines. The show is hosted by Ted Brunson, who also earned an Emmy, and Brittney Payton.

"I'm so proud to be a part of the team on 'Chicago's Best' who won this accolade," Arseneau notes. "We hear how great our show is from our fans every day, but it was great to be honored by our peers. It also means a lot more to us because of our small staff. I shoot every frame of this show and I am especially honored to say I got an Emmy for it."

Prior to joining WGN, Arseneau was both a news and commercial photographer for WCIA in Champaign-Urbana. He earned an Associate in Arts degree in speech communication from KCC in 2002, and a bachelor's degree in mass communication from Illinois State University in 2004.

"I think coming out of high school can be overwhelming because you've got decisions to make about which direction you want to go in your career," Arseneau said. "KCC and other community colleges are perfect for those students who aren't exactly sure yet. I remember after taking my first speech class at KCC thinking, 'I definitely would like to do something in a communication field.' Earning an associate's was great for me because it virtually eliminated any pre-requisites I had to take at ISU and allowed me to concentrate on my major and minor."

Arseneau resides in Homewood with his wife, Nikki, and their two boys, Cam, age four, and Ian, six months.

Another KCC graduate has earned an Emmy. Merritt Yohnka, a 1983 KCC Associate in Arts transfer graduate, has earned two Emmy Awards for Outstanding Stunt Coordination for the series "Chuck." The Emmys were awarded to Yohnka in 2008 and 2009.
