Lincoln-Way West Poms Qualify for State

The Lincoln-Way West varsity poms celebrate their first place finish in both Hip Hop and Pom categories.

Lincoln-Way West varsity poms recently earned first place in 2A Hip Hop and 2A Pom routines at the Bartlett High School Invitational and qualified for state tourney in both competition.

The State Contest will be held at the Peoria Civic Center, Peoria, on Sunday, March 4.

"The girls have worked hard on these routines since October, and they are very excited to have the chance to perform them at the state contest," said Melissa Sweeney, varsity poms coach and mathematics teacher for West.

West's junior varsity poms are experiencing an equally successful season. They earned first place at the Wheaton North Invitational on Sunday, January 22, and qualified their Hip Hop routine for the JV Finals Contest. The JV pom coach is guidance counselor Anne Orlowski.

Warrior varsity pom squad members are Angela Bieser, Jessica Blatzer, Allison Buldak, Jodi Diaz, Danielle Enders, Taylor Gallagher, Tary Hollingsworth, Erin Lavelle, Lexie Lucia, Natalie Malinowski, Kailyn O'Connor, Kathleen O'Keefe, Alexus Petrongelli, Nikki Revak, Abby Richmond, Megan Smith, Ginette Soper, Amy Stoeckley, Nicole Vander Wall and Moira Ziebart.

Warrior junior varsity pom squad members are Ali Johnson, Ashley Kowalsky, Hannah Sigrist, Beth Heise, Sarah McDonald, Alexia Velasquez, Andrea Zielinski, Morgan Richter, Nicole Sterr, Kristina Armamentos, Jenny Richardson, Meghan Baltas, Dominica Hart, Alyssa Burdick, Kari Molloy, Paige Zawislak, Sydney Novak, Carlee Wajchert, Erin Dolan and Gabby Tanquilut.

"We at West are very proud of the two pom squads and wish them the best at the state competition," noted Dr. Monica Schmitt, principal.
