Steger-South Chicago Heights Library events and programs

February is Pet Safety Month at the Steger-South Chicago Heights Library, and we are going to the dogs. Bring in any pet supply item during February and earn up to $3 off your fines and a chance to win a $25 dog grooming certificate. Suggested items include cat/dog food, trash bags, wipes, markers, tape, chew toys, old rugs or blankets, bleach, soap, anything.

Adult Programs

-Scrabble Club will be held on February 11, at 5:30 p.m. Do you love the game? We have the boards. If you have the time, drop-in for an evening of fun. Registration is required.

-Sweets for your Sweetheart will be held on Saturday, February 11, at 2 p.m. Drop-in to create something sweet for someone special in your life. Hosted by Crystal Wilson. There will be a craft for the kids. Call for details.

-Mardi Gras raffle will be held Monday-Saturday, February 12-18. In honor of Fat Tuesday, we are having a Mardi Gras Raffle all week. Drop in and answer a few Mardi Gras-related questions and particpate in a raffle for a chance to win an awesome prize. The drawing will be on Fat Tuesday.

-Hispanic Adult Book Discussion will be held on Thursday, February 16, at 10:30 a.m., in the library's media room. Drop-in and pick up the newest book selection. Title: "El Cielo Es Real," by Todd Burpo.

-CSI Steger-Crime Scene Investigation program will be held on Saturday, February 18, from 1 a.m. to 4 p.m. Get hands on training in forensic investigation, finger printing, collecting evidence and more. Cost: $65 for two sessions. Space is limited. Registration is required.

-Mystery Book Discussion will be held on Tuesday, February 21, at 6:30 p.m. Title: "Carte Blanche, A James Bond Novel" by Jeffery Deaver. James Bond, in his early thirties and already a veteran of the Afghan war, has been recruited to a new organization. Conceived in the post-9/11 world, it operates independent of MI5, MI6 and the Ministry of Defense. Its very existence is deniable. Its aim: To protect the Realm, by any means necessary. A Night Action alert calls James Bond away from dinner with a beautiful woman. Headquarters has decrypted an electronic whisper about an attack scheduled for later in the week: Casualties estimated in the thousands, British interests adversely affected. And Agent 007 has been given carte blanche to do whatever it takes to fulfill his mission

Children's Programs

-Wee Read--In partnership with Speed--Saturday, February 11, 10:30 a.m., for toddlers 18 months old through three years, with an adult. Drop-in for songs, activities and stories.

-Book to Craft - Once a month, we will be reading a book and afterwards we will be creating a craft related to the story for first-through-third graders on Wednesday, February 15, 3 p.m. Please register to secure a spot.

-L'go at the L'ibrary will be held on Friday, February 17, 3 p.m. or Saturday, February 18, 1 p.m. for kindergarten through fifth grade. Come in and create with other Lego enthusiasts.

Tweens & Teens

-Candy Sushi will be held on Saturday, February 11, 2 p.m. We will be making Sushi out of rice crispy treats, sweedish fish, Gummy worms and green fruit roll-ups.

-Super Mario Party will be held on Thursday, February 16, 5:30 p.m. We have all sorts of Mario-based video games and board games available, plus classic Nintendo. Fun and prizes for kids up to eighth grade.

-Culture Club will be celebrating Mardi gras on Saturday, February 19, 1 p.m. We will be sampling food and making Mardi gras masks. Supplies are limited. Registration is required.
