Dr. Jennifer Bertino-Tarrant, Will County Regional Superintendent of Schools, has applications available for college scholarships from the Marianjoy Scholarship Program for disabled students.

Marianjoy Rehabilitation Hospital's scholarships are awarded to students with permanent physical disabilities of the type treated at Marianjoy: brain injury; musculoskeletal impairments, such as amputation or multiple trauma; neuromuscular disorders, such as multiple sclerosis, cerebral palsy and Guillain-Barre syndrome; spinal cord injury or stroke.

Students with these kinds of disabilities can apply for the scholarships if they are enrolled or planning to enroll at accredited four-year colleges and universities, two-year colleges, or vocational technical schools. Residents of Will, Cook, DuPage, Kane, Kendall, Lake and McHenry Counties in Illinois and former patients of Marianjoy are eligible.

Scholarship recipients are selected on the basis of academic record, financial need, educational and career goals, leadership, the impact of the applicant's disability, participation in school and community activities, letters of recommendation and an overall assessment of the applicant's presentation.

To qualify, an applicant must submit: a completed application form; a personal profile outlining his or her personal circumstances, including disability, finances, education and career goals; and letters of recommendation from a counselor, instructor, employer, minister or other qualified individual. A set of original transcripts must be sent directly from the applicant's school.

Applications must be sent to and received at Marianjoy Scholarship Program, 26W171 Roosevelt Road, P.O. Box 795, Wheaton, IL 60189 by 4:30 p.m. March 30.
