L-W West Welcomes Class Of 2016

L-W West welcomes Class of 2016

Lincoln-Way West High School welcomed students and their parents to the Freshman Open House for the Class of 2016 on Tuesday, February 7.

The entire West High School was open for students and parents to tour. The evening started in the Fine Arts Auditorium with a personal welcome from Dr. Monica Schmitt, principal.

"This is an exciting night for all of us at West. We welcome all of you in the Class of 2016. We want you to explore all the opportunities that you have at Lincoln-Way West, meet your teachers and get a good feel for the high school, and what we are all about. We are about student achievement," said Schmitt to the students and parents.

Each student, as they entered the school, was given a folder to help them through the registration process. They received the 2016 Open House Program, their individual Explore Scores, class placement recommendations, and a course selection form in the color orange.

During Dr. Schmitt's presentation, she reviewed the graduation requirements, the community service requirements, the school day time schedule, the list of required freshman classes, information about summer school and zero hour, and information about all the athletics, clubs and activities that the school offers its students.

At the close of each session, students and their parents are taught the West Warrior Fight Song, vigorously played by the members of the West Warrior Marching Band and cheerleaders.

"Please ask questions tonight; we are all here for you," stated Schmitt.

Students and parents left the auditorium to visit with teachers and guidance counselors to learn about the many academic classes West offers. In addition, coaches and activity sponsors were gathered in the gymnasium to help freshmen select different activities, athletics, and clubs to join.
