Grant Park beats Tri-Point
The third time was the charm for Grant Park. After two River Valley losses to Tri-Point, Grant Park beat the Lady Chargers 67-65 in the opening round of the St. Anne 1A regional on February 6.
The Lady Dragons built up a 54-39 lead after three quarters, and Grant Park had to withstand a furious comeback by the Lady Chargers.
Jessica Frahm led the Lady Dragons with a triple double scoring 26 points, to go with 12 rebounds and 10 assists, Stacey Lorenz added 21, including five three-pointers. Corryn Poby had 15 points and added 15 rebounds to lead the Lady Dragons attack.
Grant Park also received contributions from Cassady Rosenbrock who opened the scoring with a three-pointer, and Michelle Henson who scored two points and had a huge rebound in the final seconds. Taelar Chiatello and Andrea Kuhn played some great defense on the Lady Chargers' three-point shooters.
The next night, the Lady Dragons fell 53-30 to St. Anne despite staying with the eventual regional champions for most of the first half.
The Lady Dragons trailed 23-18 at the intermission as Grant Park hit 11 free throws in the first two quarters in 18 tries. At 3:42 of the third quarter, Poby drained a jumper to make 27-23, but the Cardinals finished the game strong.
"St. Anne is a very deep team, and we cannot match their depth," Grant Park coach Mark Morgan said. "We battled hard all the way to the end."
Frahm led the Lady Dragons with 11 points, while fellow senior Poby tallied 10 points and hauled down 15 rebounds as Grant Park finished 7-14.
