L-W West's Flaherty Bowls A Winner

L-W West's Flaherty bowls a winner

At the Illinois state finals in girls bowling on February 10-11, Lincoln-Way West's Morgan Flaherty proved to the queen-pin. The junior won the individual title with a pinfall of 2764.

Flaherty won by 80 pins over Sandburg's Nicole Powell. Flaherty averaged 230.3 over the 12 games, which is third best in the history of the state bowling series.

Flaherty is the first individual state champion for Lincoln-Way West.

"I am super excited, and I know that had to focus," Flaherty said.

Flaherty had a 689 over the first three games, and sizzled in the afternoon series on Friday with a 741 including a 278 in the final game of that series. On Saturday, the Warriors rolled a 686 first series with a 254 game, and followed with a 648.

Her only game under 200 was the 12th and final as she bowled a 178. Going into that game, Flaherty had more than 100-pin lead on the nearest competitor.

That is a big improvement as Flaherty had just one sectional game over the 200 mark.

"It feels great," Flaherty concluded. "It was a great tournament for me."
