Manteno Panthers Claw Their Way To State

Manteno Panthers claw their way to State

The Manteno Panther Wrestling Team qualified four wrestlers and two alternates to the IHSA state wrestling tournament in Champaign, this past weekend from the Plano Sectional Qualifier.

Freshman qualifier Tucker Presler placed fourth at 106 lbs. Tucker captured his 30th win of the season at Plano on his way to becoming one of the few freshman state qualifiers in Manteno history.

Sophomore Christian Franc qualified for the second time in as many years at 120 lbs. Christian has battled some injuries through the season but has came on strong also placing fourth and punching his ticket to the state finals next weekend.

Manteno had two sectional finalists this year, Co-Captains Schuyler Lindsay at 132 and Anthony Franc at 152. This was Lindsay's first time in the sectional finals and is also his first trip Champaign. Lindsay finished second to Andy Rodawold from Wilmington, but has wrestled well compiling 32-8 season record going into the State Finals.

Anthony Franc at 152 was Manteno's only sectional champ, finishing his opponent by tech-fall in the finals 16-1. This is nothing new to Anthony as he is Manteno's only four-time state qualifier in school history. He has made the trip for the past three years but has yet to complete his goal of bringing home a state title, which he continues to work toward this weekend.

Freshman Jordyn Wasiel at 195 and senior Austin Crowley at 220 are the two alternates for Manteno. Both have had great seasons for the Panthers falling just short of an automatic bid to the state finals but through their hard work and dedication the earned alternate spots waiting on their shot to prove themselves in Champaign.

Please come out to support the Panthers this weekend in Champaign as they strive to be the best in the state and bring home an IHSA state wrestling title.
