IDOT Responds to Beecher Share
On March 27, Beecher Village President Paul Lohmann wrote a letter to IDOT (Illinois Department of Transportation) regarding the condition of Route 1 from Goodenow Road to the Kankakee County Line. In his letter, Lohmann wanted to know what IDOT was going to do about the condition of the whole road, especially that portion that goes through the Village of Beecher. In her response, on April 13, Diane O'Keefe, the deputy director of highways and Region One engineer, replied: ''We have reviewed your concern and offer the following comments.'' As part of the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009 for patching (intermittent resurfacing) of roadways in Will County, to the tune of $2 million, ''The department will be performing intermittent resurfacing along Route 1 from Illinois Route 394 to Pasadena Avenue,'' said O'Keefe. According to her letter, the department plans to have bid letting on April 24.

O'Keefe also indicated in her letter that the resurfacing of Route 1 from Pasadena Avenue to the Kankakee County Line would be included in the department's 2009 spring repair initiative. According to O'Keefe, bid letting for that project would be held on May 15. ''In the interim, we will continue to monitor the roadway and address any hazards as we become aware of them,'' said O'Keefe. Terry Gatlin is a reporter for Russell Publications.
