Third grader Colby Bigos jumps rope at the ''Olympic Day,'' where students compete to see how many jumps they can complete in 30 seconds.
BES Olympic Day Held Share
Students of Beecher Elementary School started their ''Olympic Day'' lined up in the school parking lot ready to parade across to Fireman's Park bearing their team flag. During this time, the high school band played. The flag holder placed the flag in the center of the crowd and returned to his classmates. Mrs. Goedke, the principal, began the opening ceremony with the Pledge of Allegiance, as is the custom each day at BES. Goedke thanked the moms and dads for chaperoning and the P.T.A. for running the concession stand. Students were encouraged when she told them, ''You are all winners today. You worked hard all year and this is your reward. Have fun; you have earned it!''

Then each child repeated the Olympic oath and the Star Spangled Banner proudly resounded from the band. Finally, the games were declared open. Dawn Wolf is a reporter for Russell Publications.
