Reising Chevrolet on Hit List

Share

R.L. Reising Chevrolet opened its first dealership in Momence in 1925.

Recently, Joe Reising learned that General Motors will not renew his franchise as of the end of October 31, 2010.

What will happen to Reising after that has not been decided.

''I will make a decision in the next few days,'' said Joe Reising.

''We could continue as a used car operation with a service facility.''

''I have many concerns,'' said Reising.

''I have people who work for me and they have mortgages to pay and other bills that need to be considered. There is a much to take into account.''

Reising has many decisions to make. Without the GM franchise, his overhead will go down.

He has a good number of new vehicles on his lot.

''The village will lose tax revenue if we close,'' said Reising.

''It is unfortunate that many Beecher residents will go to another town to buy the same car they could get here. That hurts the businesses in Beecher.''

Terry Gatlin is a reporter for Russell Publications.
