Marina Sabino of Beecher concentrates on making a windsock after declaring ''I love this,'' referring to all the activities at the Teddy Bear Tea Party.
What are Little Girls Made Of? Share
At the Girl Scout's Teddy Bear Tea Party, nine little girls really were made of sugar and spice and all that's nice. The adorable girls enjoyed a three-hour morning of scheduled activities, drinking tea, i.e., iced tea or lemonade, with their teddy bears and new friends. The Girl Scouts of Greater Chicago and Northwest Indiana recruited Rachael Ferro, field manager, to host the party at the Beecher Community Hall. With food, crafts, songs and games planned every 15 minutes, Ferro took advantage of her captive audience. This special event was planned to pique the girls interest and to teach them ''a little about Girl Scouts,'' informed Ferro.

The Teddy Bear Party was the first step in fulfilling the Girl Scout mission: ''Girl Scouting builds girls of courage, confidence, and character, who make the world a better place.'' At the celebration, the girls were filled with gummy bears, cookies and drinks. Then, they marched in a teddy bear parade. Next, ''Duck, duck, goose'' and ''Freeze Dance'' were on the agenda. The girls made friendship bracelets, paper dolls, and a windsock which one girl was giving to her grandpa for his birthday later that day. Learning about tea party etiquette and how to make and appreciate friends was a part of the morning. Finally, Ferro encouraged each girl to find a Daisy Girl Scout Troop to join. The Daisy Girl Scouts are kindergarten and first grade girls who generally meet throughout the school year. According to Ferro, groups have been organized in the area. Parents can find a group for their daughters now or in the fall. For more information or to find a local Girl Scout troop, contact Ferro directly at 815-723-3449 ext. 2246 or email her at rferro@girlscoutsgcnwi.org.
