Muskies win over Shooters Share
The Beecher Muskies baseball team (19-10) improved to 3-2 against the Oak Forest Shooters with a come from behind win on the road on July 7. Jayson Koehn (Beecher) started on the mound for the Muskies and gave up a run in the third inning and two in the fourth. The Muskies got one run back in the fifth, scoring after two were out. Brett Velon singled up the middle and stole second and third. He scored when the catcher's throw to third went wild into left field. The Shooters would match that in their half of the fifth to take a 4-1 lead. The Muskies would tie the game in the sixth, scoring three times. Dan Weltmeyer (Manteno) drew a one-out walk and, after Ryan Lardi popped out to short, Brian Bajer would draw a walk. Both would score on Mike Henderson's gapper to left center for a double. Dave Pellack (L-W East) would bring Henderson in with the tying run with a single up the middle. Bret Kribbs came on in relief of Koehn in the seventh inning and pitched a scoreless frame. Kribbs would experience control problems in the eighth, walking the leadoff hitter. But catcher Marty Coyle would erase that runner, taking a pitch in the dirt and firing a strike to Dave Pellack to gun down the runner attempting to steal. But Kribbs would walk the next two hitters, and Juan Desiderio (Grant Park) was summoned by manager Fred LeSage to face the Shooter three and four hitters. He retired the three-hitter on an infield fly and got the cleanup hitter on a grounder to Dave Blomberg (Beecher HS) to snuff out the threat. The Muskies then took the lead in the top of the ninth. Velon led off with a shot over the centerfielder's head for a double. Blomberg sacrificed him to third and Velon scored on Steve Pellack's (LW East) tapper that was booted by the Oak Forest third baseman for a 5-4 lead. Desiderio would then close out the Shooters in the ninth inning to secure the victory.
