Investigation of Beecher girl's beating continues Share
According to Beecher Police, on the week-end of August 14, a nine-year-old girl was beaten in Beecher. An ambulance was called to the 1100 block of Cherry Lane in Beecher. The girl was eventually transported to Hope Children's Hospital in Oak Lawn when hospital officials at St. James Hospital determined she needed additional emergency treatment. The child was in foster care at the residence. ''The Beecher Police Department, along with the Will/Grundy Major Crimes Taskforce and the Department of Child and Family Services are investigating,'' said Beecher Police Chief Jeff Weissgerber. The child is listed in critical, but stable, condition at the hospital.

The girl suffered a subdural hematoma and brain trauma as the result of blunt-force (impact) according to Lt. William Carlisle, task force commander. According to health reports, a subdural hematoma is a severe medical emergency with a high mortality rate. The taskforce is a multi-jurisdictional unit consisting of detectives and evidence technicians from 36 law enforcement agencies, who work together to eliminate the time and distance an investigation can require. Fifteen agents have worked on the case. ''Police are attempting to locate several persons of interest, and the investigation is ongoing,'' said Weissgerber.
