Beecher's first Oktoberfest, October 3 Share
Oktoberfest in Munich Germany dates back to October 10, 1810. Oktoberfest in Beecher will have its beginnings this Saturday, October 3. The event, sponsored by the Beecher Historic Downtown Business Association, will take place downtown on Gould Street. On Saturday morning, the hungry can enjoy the Lion's Club pancake breakfast from 8 to 10 a.m. Once done eating, visitors can travel to the train depot and caboose, which will be open to the public from 10 a.m. until noon. At 11 a.m., onlookers will relish watching preschoolers in a Halloween parade. Then all can enjoy the 11:30 a.m. puppet show and a magic show at 4 p.m. In between the scheduled fun, festival goers can stop by the food booths of the Beecher Cafe, Halo Pizza, and Teapots Cafe. Speaking of food, Chili chefs can compete in the Chili Cook-off, 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. in hopes of being awarded a prize of $125, $75, or $50 for first, second, and third places. Three lucky judges will be firing up the taste buds and choosing the best chili, based on originality, taste, heat/intensity of flavor, and overall best chili. This contest is sponsored by the Beecher Chamber of Commerce and applications can be submitted at village hall. Many more activities will be happening throughout the day. The car show is always a draw, along with a craft fair and a farmer's market. Kids look forward to choosing a pumpkin at the pumpkin patch, jumping in a bouncy house, or cruising on the Lion's Club Freedom Train. Disc Jockey Ian Tully will entertain during the day. At 4:30 p.m., after the day of sales, the 50/50 Raffle winner will be drawn.
