Chamber honors Virginia Bath as citizen of the year Share
Without her, the history of Beecher may have been lost. At the November 7 village board meeting, the Beecher Chamber of Commerce presented its citizen of the year award to Virginia Bath for her tireless work in preserving the history of Beecher. Chamber President Chuck Hoehn praised Bath for her ''countless hours as caretaker of the historical museum and for preserving the history of Beecher.'' Bath was the driving force behind the Beecher Historical Museum. She was instrumental in collecting many of the historical items that are now displayed or stored at the museum, house at the village's restored historical former railroad depot in downtown Beecher. She has been a part of the historical society since its inception, when the historical artifacts and memorabilia were located in the upstairs of the public library. ''If anyone deserves the citizen of the year, it's Virginia,'' said Mayor Paul Lohman.

''Without her, we wouldn't have the history of Beecher,'' he added. Bath commented that the museum was now 20 years old and that the historical society was founded five years before the museum was established. Lynn Dill is a reporter for Russell Publications.
